After seeing a need for clients to work with a design only firm that truly listens to what the customer wants and is solely focuses on articulating the client’s vision, Chris Johannsen started CREATIVEscapes.
“Our goal is for you to have a clear design that is both esthetically pleasing and functional for your lifestyle. Our plan is to execute unique and comfortable outdoor living space,” comments Johannsen, the firm’s owner and lead designer.
All this is achieved by going through a step-by-step process that takes the client from onsite consultation to being ready to take the project out to bid to contractors. It eliminates the frustration of talking to five different people with 200 different ideas, which can become very overwhelming during the starting phases of the project.
According to Johannsen, project plans also help during the bidding process to create an environment where everyone is bidding on the same thing. Consequently, this allows you to compare apples to apples, when getting pricing and ensures that you and the contractor have a clear vision of what the project should look like before they build it. Having a detailed set of project plans also helps to hold the contractor accountable and make sure they are executing the construction as outlined. Johannsen graduated with his BFA from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2008, majoring in sculpture and minoring in crafts focused on metalsmithing. Before starting his CREATIVEscapes he worked for two multi-million-dollar design/build firms where he designed and built projects ranging from $30,000-$1,500,000. He started out as a project manager and within five years rose to lead designer and sales manager. He decided to start CREATIVEscapes and focus on his passion of designing outdoor living spaces.
“The journey has been incredible going from constructing projects to starting a design business in a span of 10 years. We have been truly blessed to have an incredible support and amazing clients,” adds Johannsen.
The company focuses on design in the North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland and Florida area, but they do travel for unique design opportunities. They are now starting to get national recognition for their designs and are excited for the next 10 years and the amazing opportunities ahead.
