Located in Porto de Pedras along Brazil’s Ecological Route of Miracles, the development overlooks the Costa dos Corais Environmental Protection Area, home to Brazil’s second-largest coral reef system. Rather than treating this remarkable setting as a scenic backdrop, Italian design house Pininfarina and developer Cavalcante & Rolim used the surrounding ecosystem as the project’s primary source of inspiration, allowing coral reefs, ocean currents, mangrove forests, and marine life to shape every aspect of the design.
Named after the graceful manta ray, the development embraces softly curved forms, layered architectural canopies, and fluid outdoor spaces that capture the movement of water while creating an environment that feels calm, organic, and connected to its surroundings.
Outdoor Spaces Designed as a Journey
Unlike many luxury resorts organized around a central pool complex or entertainment district, Manta unfolds as a carefully choreographed sequence of outdoor experiences. Visitors transition gradually from lush arrival gardens into intimate courtyards, shaded retreats, vibrant gathering spaces, and oceanfront wellness destinations. Each area offers its own atmosphere while maintaining visual and physical connections to the surrounding landscape.
The arrival sequence is intentionally designed to slow the pace, using meandering pathways, tropical vegetation, and framed views to create a sense of discovery. Throughout the property, gardens, water features, and gathering spaces encourage residents and guests to move naturally between environments rather than remaining in a single destination.
Wellness Takes Center Stage Along the Shoreline
The Social Hub serves as the project’s vibrant centerpiece, bringing together pools, dining venues, landscaped terraces, and a sculptural mushroom-inspired bar that functions as both an architectural focal point and gathering place. Nearby Eco-Scape Hubs provide quieter escapes with jacuzzis, shaded lounges, contemplative water features, and native landscaping that encourage relaxation.
The beachfront Wellness Hub extends the outdoor experience even further by integrating spa facilities, fitness spaces, dining venues, and peaceful areas for reflection with uninterrupted views of the Atlantic Ocean. Rather than separating wellness amenities from the landscape, every space is designed to strengthen the connection between people and the surrounding environment.
Coral Reefs Inspire Both Beauty and Performance
The surrounding marine ecosystem influences more than the overall aesthetic. Coral formations inspired sculptural screening systems integrated throughout the architecture, filtering tropical sunlight while encouraging natural ventilation and improving privacy. As the sun moves across the sky, these patterned façades create constantly changing shadows that reinforce the project’s relationship with the nearby reef system.
Material selections continue the conversation between architecture and nature. Warm timber, light architectural concrete, expansive glazing, and abundant native vegetation echo the colors and textures of nearby Praia do Patacho, allowing the buildings to blend naturally into the landscape instead of competing with it.
Sustainability Is Built Into the Experience
Located within one of Brazil’s most environmentally sensitive coastal regions, Manta incorporates passive cooling strategies, cross ventilation, greywater reuse systems, infrastructure prepared for solar energy, and low-impact construction techniques. Native landscaping and locally sourced materials further reduce environmental impact while supporting biodiversity throughout the property.
