When choosing a pool builder or landscape designer, finding one with a strong education and experience is key. Qualified builders/designers will stay up to date on all building and design techniques, industry trends, and innovative ideas. It’s only natural that the combined expertise from both professional fields will lead to even more exquisite pools and landscapes to be enjoyed by you, the homeowner.
To promote continuing education among pool builders and landscape designers, two international associations recently joined together.
“The Association of Professional Landscape Design (APLD) and Genesis 3 , [a design/construction consortium for pool professionals], are partnering to build the education in the landscape design world of pools and patios,” said Colleen Hamilton, APLD sponsorship chairman. “Neither a pool nor a patio can stand alone without a good overall landscape design.”
“In the same way,” Hamilton continues, “good landscapes need relaxing outdoor spaces and water in the form of pools, water features, fountains etc., as part of the design. Both APLD and Genesis 3 realize the expertise that can be provided by the other and are working together to build this partnership.”
Combined with Genesis 3’s IACET accreditation program, APLD also offers its members a certification program—the only one of its kind—that provides professional recognition to those designers who can pass a rigorous peer review program.
“No other educational system in the pool, spa and landscape industry has the scope and third party accreditation that Genesis 3 and its participants enjoy,” said Brian Van Bower, Society of Watershape Designers, president and co-founder of Genesis 3, and president of Aquatic Consultants, Inc.
Both membership groups look forward to the benefits of this new partnership. ASLD and Genesis 3 will be working together at the upcoming Int’l Pool | Spa | Patio Expo, an industry trade show endorsed by Genesis 3, taking place Nov. 6 – 8 in New Orleans, La. At the show, APLD members will present educational seminars on landscape design around water features and patios.
