Glass Tile Swimming Pool Designs

Glass tile adds immense beauty and allure to swimming pools, and when installed properly, most types of glass tile represent the most durable of all swimming pool and spa surfaces. Glass tiles come in a wide variety of shapes, colors, and finishes, and can be used to accent any style of pool, be it traditional, modern, or natural. Take a look at the countless ways glass tile finishes can be used in pool and spa designs.

Glass Tile Pool Applications

Pool with Glass Tile Waterline

Waterline

Glass is traditionally used as an accent tile at the swimming pool’s waterline because of the way it captures the light from the sun and mirrors the movement of the water.

Pool Steps and Edges

For a simple design glass tiles can be added along the outer edge of pool steps for a stunning accent.
This can also help swimmers safely distinguish each step as they enter the pool.

Raised Spa with Glass Tile Wall

Raised Spas

By adorning the outer walls and coping in glass tile, a raised spa becomes a dazzling showpiece.
Shades of aqua, jade, and blue glass tiles give this raised spa a gem-like luster.

Spa with Glass Tile Water Feature

Glass tiles are one of the most popular types of accent tiles used for water features and water walls because of their glittering effect.

As water cascades from the wall, each glass tile sparkles in the sunlight, creating a shimmering backdrop.

Iridescent glass tiles are often used to accent vanishing edges on infinity pools or perimeter overflows: As the water flows over the pool’s edge, the glass tiles sparkle in the sunlight, highlighting the pool’s dramatic feature.

Glass Tile Colors & Patterns for Pools

Glass Tile Mosaic

Various decorative patterns and mosaics can be formed on the pool’s floor and walls using glass tiles, from whimsical murals of sea creatures to colorful sunbursts in yellow and orange glass to more sophisticated patterns like this pool’s dark blue Grecian key.

Glass tiles can also be arranged in random and geometric patterns for a unique, custom design. Here, blue and white glass tiles were applied along the pool’s border in a wave design and up the walls of the raised spa in a gradient pattern.

Multi-colored Glass Tiles

By using multiple colors, glass tiles can generate uniform colors or be mixed to create subtle hues that cannot be achieved any other way.

Multi-colored Glass Tiles on Spa Wall

When viewed closely, the color of each glass tile on the spa’s wall is apparent, but when glazed over in water and seen from a short distance, the different colors visually blend together, mimicking the natural hues and texture of the rock waterfall in the background.

Light-Colored Glass Tiles

The use of lighting and colors in glass tiles can dramatically alter the look of a swimming pool. Light-colored tiles have a brightening effect, making the water look crystal clear.

Dark-Colored Glass Tiles

Dark glass tiles darken the appearance of water, making it appear as though the pool or spa is a sheet of glass.
