A serene and modern backyard retreat with a sleek pool and lounge area thoughtfully designed for relaxation. A rectangular pool, its dark interior lending the water a deep, reflective quality, anchors the space. The perimeter of the pool area and raised planters are defined by smooth, light-grey concrete walls, establishing a clean, modern aesthetic and subtle level changes. A striking swim-up bar area, part of a raised structure, is clad in dark dramatic Dekton Somnia, introducing a touch of visual contrast and sophistication to the otherwise light color palette. An Ipe deck and steps, add warmth and a natural element to the contemporary design. The pool’s interior features a black pebble sheen, enhancing the water’s still and profound appearance. The pool’s exposed wall edge is wrapped with a light-colored large format porcelain paver, providing a clean, straight border around the dark water. Sleek, dark planters with simple greenery introduce a touch of nature without disrupting the design’s clean lines. In the background, mature trees offer a sense of privacy and a natural counterpoint to the modern elements.

Nestled amongst lush greenery, a striking midcentury home with a sophisticated outdoor living space centered around a unique multi-level pool. The main section of the pool features a distinctive black pebble finish. Adjacent to the main pool, a raised perimeter overflow spa is clad in sleek black tiles, creating a sophisticated and visually distinct zone for relaxation. Above it, a separate shallow lap pool gently cascades its water into the main basin. Adding both visual and auditory delight, a dramatic waterfall feature graces one side of the main pool, with multiple scuppers penetrating through water already flowing over a custom fabricated marble wall. This natural material introduces an earthy and tactile dimension to the modern design. A warm-toned wood decking material extends around a portion of the pool, creating an inviting and natural surface for relaxation. In contrast, light-colored marble pavers, larger in size, define other areas around the pool, particularly near the waterfall. These complement the tiled retaining walls and offer a different underfoot texture. Sleek, white lounge chairs and other contemporary outdoor furniture promise comfortable outdoor living. The abundance of mature trees and lush foliage envelops the space, fostering a sense of privacy and seamlessly integrating the modern design with its natural surroundings.

The importance of balance in design. Tranquil waters flowing over a large 50’x6’ water wall were competing with the nearby interstate highway. The large monochromatic wall competing with the many windows and architectural features of the house. Five custom scuppers from Great American Waterfall added an audible and visual balance by breaking up the large mass and drowning out highway noise. This subtle addition created harmony throughout the space that pulls you in and makes it hard to leave.
